Can someone please send me any version of Adobe Dreamweaver? I need it for a project that is due on Friday and its just way too expensive to buy for ONE project! Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried to download the trial versions available on the website but they just don't work! Either they stop downloading mid way or once you've downloaded them and you click on 'setup' nothing happens!!

Please, please help!!

Search Engine
Does anyone have any suggestions for a search engine script that I can use for my site? I'd like to allow users to search for things within my site [primarily videos], but the problem seems to hinge on the fact that I don't use databases to drive my site.

I wouldn't mind creating the search index myself, I just want something nice and clean to display results and all that. I looked at the option of adding a Google custom search engine to my site but I don't much like the branding and ads.

Any suggestions would be awesome!

ServerPronto
Hello everyone.

I am a small business owner and I recently got a dedicated server at ServerPronto.

I am new to this so I have two questions:

1) Does anyone else have a server there and if you do, what are your experiences with it?
2) Based on their site, how do you think they compares to other services?

Really looking forward to some input!

Thanks,

Cheap and Reliable?
Where can you get 1GB space and 50GB bandwidth for less than a dollar or more accurately, £0.50 per month?

Hi everyone

My name is Steph and I'm from Australia. I'm interested in starting up a website but I don't really know where to start. How do I go about getting a domain name? If anyone could reccommend some hosts then I would be very grateful.

Also, I'm struggling to think of ideas on what to put on it - blog, photos etc. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked a gazillion times!

Thankyou.

- Steph

I’m not in the habit of complaining publicly about a company I’ve had dealings with, but in mulling it over I’ve decided that I’d prefer to air my grievances publicly. In doing so I hope that some potential webhosting customers will see and decide against giving their hard earned cash to these people.

I’ve been hosted with Solid Internet for three years and before that, two years with Myacen (the same company). In that time there have been a number of prolonged outages, always blamed on a third party software provider or service. While annoying this is not my main gripe with Telewest (who also provide domain registration through LiveRegistry). My problem with the company is the owners attitude toward his customers, namely that he refuses to take responsibility for his failure to test new software (which he has publicly admitted) before installing it on production servers and, should you complain you’re met with sarcasm and no help, if you ever actually get a response (you can read his new responses to one customer here).

As a customer of Solid Internet I am only able to get help on any problems with my site via the forums, I understood this from the beginning and have no problem with it. What I do have a problem with, however, is that I’m unable to gain support via the forums because my username has been removed from the user group that allows access to the support forums. Not only this, but I’ve so far waited three days to be added to this group, meanwhile my site has been inaccessible.

I was first attracted to Solid Internet because they provided a cheap service, unfortunately it has become clearer and clearer that this is a situation where you get what you pay for.

I am looking for a piece of software that will allow me to stream video and possibly audio to my server, and from there, out to the world.

One of my clients will be having twins soon, and would like to have a live camera in the bedroom so that family from around the country can see the new babies. I have looked around on the web for a few solutions, and have yet to turn up anything.

My client requests that the end user [his family] are able to view the video either from the web browser itself, or from windows media player if absolutely necessary. I have a dedicated server, running linux so most things should work for me server wise.

Price isn't really an issue, although I really don't feel like spending a ton of money on something that will only be used for a few weeks.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've got a domain that is expiring on April 12th, 2006, and I'm not using it anymore. I've owned it since April of 2004, and I've stopped using it. The domain is LOUDANDLOCAL.NET, and I'm looking to sell it. I used it for about a year and a half as a site similar to something like purevolume, promoting local bands, hosting mp3s, etc. I'm only trying to sell the domain because I'm not using it, and I don't want to renew it; and if I let it expire, it will fall into the hands of godaddy.com, and no one else will be able to register it.

If you would like to make a serious offer, email rob@hostfury.net, and I will provide further contact methods if you are interested.

If this is not allowed in this community, I apologize, and this post may be removed.

getting a server
Hey I am new to webdesigning...I have a few questions about getting a server.

-i use dreamweaver and I know I have to get a server for a remote site to upload my files to. I need to get a site that I can get a domain name for, and all that stuff. How exactly does that work?

-when i purchase a domain name and get a server, do they give me all the information and the password and all the stuff to type into the section for establishing a remote site?

-when i get the server, what would i select: ftp, local/network, etc..

-i dont need to get an additional file uploading program like cuteftp or anything if i have dreamweaver right? i assume i can just do the uploading straight on that program

sorry if these questions seem ridiculous, but i really just started learning and if you guys can help me out at all i would be so happy. any advice would be appreciated so much. thanks!

UK-based colocation?
Does anyone have any decent recommendations / is involved with UK-based colocation for servers? I've got several contacts in the US for it, and already do most of my colocation in datacentres over there, but I've got several clients who are requesting UK specific servers. However, most of the UK-specific colo services I've seen are downright extortionate for what they are. I don't require them to be managed, except for hardware maintenance where necessary, and that can be on a per-job basis if it comes down to it. Some of them are going to be fairly bandwidth hungry though.

Thanks in advance!

Firefox Extension Issues
Not sure how many people use Firefox or the Web Developer Extension, but it seems there is a conflict with it somewhere. I noticed that Firefox was not loading when I tried to launch a new instance, however the process was listed in the Task Manager [and using about 53,000 K of memory]. Clicking links in pages resulted in no response from Firefox as well. I asked a friend who also uses FF and we compared our extensions, the two that we both have in common are:

-Tabbrowser Prefrences 1.2.8.8
-Forecastfox 0.8.2.5

Not sure if it is a conflict with one of these extensions, or just a bug with the Web Developer extension. I disabled the Web Developer extension, and everything is back to normal. but I thought I'd let people know incase they are having similar issues :D
